(DST-FIST Supported Department)
Physics plays a key role in science education and society providing the molecular alphabet for science. It is the source of new concepts about
all aspects of the nature and is a driving force for new technologies. The Department of Physics under the School of Physical Sciences at BBAU
Lucknow was established in 2010 with a goal to pursue excellencein teaching and research in basic and advanced areas of experimental & theoretical physics,
as well as in interdisciplinary areas of science & technology.Department is known for research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Computational Physics
(ab-initio methods), Nuclear and Particle Physics, Space and Atmospheric Physics, Ultrasonics and Photonics. The department strives to train its students
to become skilled and motivated physicists. Students have consistently shown success in various competitive exams like CSIR, UGC-JRF/NET, GATE, JEST etc.
and secured jobs in academic institutions, universities and other offices. Students are admitted for M.Sc.(Physics)programmethrough National Level Entrance
Examination Test by the NTA and for Ph.D.programme through National Level Entrance Examinationby the university.Choice-Based Credit System is being followed
and few papers may be chosen which supplement and complement core Physics subject from other disciplines viz. Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Electronics,
Environmental Science etc. based on the NEP-2019. The course curriculum of M. Sc. (Physics) and Ph. D. has been prepared in view of the guidelines from UGC
and MHRD, Govt. of India as modified time to time in respective BPGS (Board of Postgraduate Studies) meetings. Modification in the syllabus in consultation
with the industry professionals, practitioners, students and their parents basically who are the stakeholders is a continuous process. In addition to the
normal teaching classes and the practical training, the curriculum has integral components of seminars and research based on projects targeted to shape
the student’s career in accordance with the requirement of the present national and international needs. The department is in the process of developing
facilities conducive for training in the field of Physics at par with that of international level. Faculty of the department is running various
externally funded research projects from agencies like DST, DAE, UGC and CST. Many distinguished scientists and eminent scholars from premier research
institutes such as CSIR, IIT, IISER, Indian and foreign Universities are invited to deliver lectures in their area of research interest from time
to time. The students are exposed to both academics as well as extracurricular activities during their tenure.
