The Department offers M. Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. Programmes in Horticulture. Initially, there was a one year (two semester) PG Diploma course in Horticulture known as PG Diploma in ‘Seed and Nursery Production’ under the Centre for Rural Technology (CRT) that was started in the Academic Session 1997 and continued up to the academic session 2000-2001. The course was upgraded to Master Degree Programme in Horticulture from the academic session 2001-2002 after creation of Department of Applied Plant Science (Horticulture) under the School of Bio Sciences and Biotechnology. Since then concerted efforts have been made to conduct research on all aspects of Horticultural crops viz., Fruits, Vegetable, Ornamentals, Medicinal & Aromatic crops and Aquatic plants in order to improve their productivity and quality. Recently, School of Agricultural Science and Technology (SAST) came in brief under which Department of Horticulture is existing. Another course i.e. B. Voc. (Floriculture and Landscape Gardening) is also running under the aegis of the Department of Horticulture. About the B. Voc. (Floriculture and Landscape Gardening) To develop skill and employability among youth, short term and long certificate courses, diploma courses and various vocational courses have also been emphasized by government of India at various platforms. The basic aim of these courses is to increase self-sufficiency and self-dependence of younger generation, motivating them for entrepreneurship. B. Voc. (Floriculture and Landscape Gardening) targets the floriculture and nursery industry, besides the various opportunities for landscaping in hotels, land developers and government gardens and aims to prepare a person for handling various job opportunities in public and private sector as well as help for entrepreneurship development. The department has also started 3 years B. Voc Course (Bachelor of Vocational Course) in Floriculture and Landscape Gardening from 2014.
